Named after the heritage-minded former state lieutenant governor Bob Bullock, this museum's four-story rotunda centers on a 40-foot-diameter terrazzo floor of iconic images and a Texas Ranger’s badge embedded in the surface. Films provide historical overviews of the stirring story of Texas. Permanent and short-term exhibits fill in the details. Interactive computer kiosks offer further exploration. Historic objects range from a cannon from the Belle (French Explorer LaSalle’s ship that sank in 1686) to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) control panel. The museum also features an IMAX theater.
Watch the following videos to learn more about the excavation of La Belle and the almost 2 million artifacts the ship contained.
